Hello friends, I hope you are all enjoying the Holidays! Today's post is on.....you guessed it, the gracefully gorgeous, yet desperately underrated Irene Dunne. Irene, born on December 20, 1898- September 4, 1990 was mainly known for her slapstick comedies such as The Awful Truth (with one of her favorite co-stars, Cary Grant), Theadora Goes Wild (with Melvin Douglas) and Never A Dull Moment ( with Fred MacMurray). Although she was known for her slapstick comedy, she made riveting drama's such as Penny Serenade (With Cary Grant...again;) and I Remember Mama ( with Oskar Homolka). Acting wasn't Irene's only talent, along with being absolutely gorgeous and never aging, she had a bewitching voice (being taught to singing at a very young age, she wanted to be in the opera) that was barely shown to its true potential in movies such as Roberta (Irene had a supporting role, the stars were Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.) and Show Boat (with Helen Morgan and Paul Robeson). The first movie I watched Irene in was Roberta, although she had such a minor role, her abilities shocked me to the point where I thought "Who is this dame anyways?" Even after so much research and constantly watching her movies, something about her to this day I simply can't put into words. "Why am I writing this then?" you ask well, Irene deserves as many tributes as possible and here is my miniscule offering...but be prepared I am starting an even longer post on her ;). Fun Facts: 1. Love Affair (with Charles Boyer) was re-made 2 more times, In color as, An Affair To Remember almost 20 years later with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant. An Affair To Remember was remade in 1994 with Annette Bening and Warren Beaty billed as Love Affair. Out the 3 versions, An Affair To Remember (1957) is/was the most popular. 2. She had one child, a daughter whom she adopted in 1936 (finalized in 1938) her name was Mary Frances; sadly she passed away this year on July 22. September 15, 1935 - July 22, 2020 3. Irene was a devout Catholic laywoman. 4. She was married to her husband for 38 years aka the same length of time that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together ;) 5. Her movie Anna and the King of Siam was later re-made as yet another box-office hit for Deborah Kerr (alongside Yul Brynner) in The King and I. 6. My Favorite Wife was remade as Move Over Darling ( starring Doris Day and James Garner). 7. Show Boat was re-made in 1951 as a mega-hit musical with Ava Gardner, Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson. Contrary to popular belief, Ava Gardner could sing...just not the way the studios wanted her to, causing her to be dubbed by Annette Warren. 8. Irene made three movies with Charles Boyer : Love affair (1939), Together Again (this is Not a sequel to Love Affair, just a tip ;) and When Tomorrow Comes. 9. Irene also made three movies with Cary Grant: My Favorite Wife (1940), The Awful Truth (1937), and Penny Serenade (1941) 10. She never won an Academy Award although in my opinion she deserved more awards than Meryl Streep!

Today marks Tommy Dorsey's 115th birthday.
Known for his recordings of songs like: Blue Skies, Stardust and two of my absolute favorites Lullaby of Broadway and I'll Never Smile Again. Tommy's brother Jimmy took over the Dorsey Brothers band after he died. Tommy recorded songs with many famous singers among them were a young Frank Sinatra and Jo Stafford. Dorsey died at the age of 51 on November 26, 1956. He died from supposedly being heavily sedated with sleeping pills, which caused him to choke and die in his sleep after eating a large meal. He had begun taking sleeping pills regularly at this time, from which he was so sedated that he died in his sleep from choking after eating a heavy meal- Tommy Dorsey/wikipedia. November 19, 1905- November 26, 1956. Happy Birthday Tommy! Today would have been Rock's 95th birthday, had he not died from "AIDS- related complications"
Rock has been the face for AIDS awareness since he died in 1985 at the young age of 59 (the same age that Clark Gable was when he died in 1960). He is an absolute legend. From his good looks to his acting chops. Rock will always be remembered as a star. Happy Birthday Rock!! PS: Say hi to Doris for me 😁 Other birthday twins: Martin Scorsese, Dean Paul Martin ( Dean Martin's son) and Mischa Auer. Here's a little post in memory of Clark Gable, best known for his role as the debonair Rhett Butler in 1939's Gone With The Wind alongside Vivien Leigh.
On this day 60 years ago Clark died at the young age of 59, the cause of death being a heart attack. Fact 1. He was known for being a ladies man, having an affair with Loretta Young and numerous women; and marrying 5 times. Fact 2. His most publicized marriage was his 3rd, with Carole Lombard. Carole tragically died in a plane crash while they were married, she was only 33. A complete fun fact page will be uploaded soon! We miss you Clark! Rest in Peace. February 1, 1901- November 16, 1960. Today is the beautiful Grace Kelly's 91st birthday.
Aside from being an actress, she was princess of Monaco, and mother to 3 children. Although she officially retired from the "Hollywood Scene" at age 26, her legacy will forever leave an indelible print on this world. Time to celebrate her legacy by watching her top hits: High Society (1956), To Catch a Thief (1954) and Rear Window (1954); the latter two being Alfred Hitchcock projects. How are you going to celebrate? Hello all, I haven't posted for quite some time but c'est la vie.
Happy Fourth of July to all who celebrate it. There are so many stars who had their birthdays, death-aversaries, and deaths in the past few months. I will post a separate post for birthdays and death-aversaries RIP to Vera Lynn amazing singer who was the most popular during WW2. March 20, 1917- June 18, 2020 It is said she has died from natural causes at age 103! RIP to Carl Reiner, comedy king who was taken too early from the world at the age of 98. Carl was best known for being the creator, producer, writer and actor on the Dick Van Dyke Show (one of my favorites). Carl also appeared on The Julie Andrews Hour and The Carol Burnett Show along with many more. March 20, 1922- June 29, 2020 Cause of death- Natural Causes. Hello friends, I hope everyone is doing well and is healthy with this crazy Coronavirus outbreak! Recently I came across the talent and beauty of Ingrid Bergman and Deborah Kerr. I will be watching and reviewing their movies as well as possibly posting interesting facts on the two of them I've collected. So stay tuned!
Thank you all for reading and stay safe! Hello friends, last night I saw some very sad news, Kirk Douglas died on February 5 2020 AKA yesterday. The talented actor and legendary leading man was 103 years old and his cause of death has not yet been disclosed (most likely old age). Though his son, Micheal Douglas is also a renowned actor, Kirk was one of the few Golden Age of Hollywood legends still alive. Dear Kirk, you will be greatly missed, hopefully you have found eternal rest. Kirk Douglas, born Issur Danielovitch Demsky. December 9, 1916 - February 5, 2020.
Hello all, today I signed a petition to change Marilyn Monroe's death certificate from suicide to probable murder or at least accidental death. If you believe that she didn't commit suicide, or at least think there is something suspicious of the circumstances of her death, I recommend that you sign this. Here is the link http://chng.it/WmTvd6TmpW. If the link does not work, simply go to www.change.org or search for Marilyn Monroe petition on your browser.
Thank you! Hello all! Here are some facts that I've put together about Humphrey Bogart.
1. Humphrey's well known nickname "Bogie" was given to him by his good friend and actor, Spencer Tracy. 2.Katharine Hepburn, along with Spencer Tracy, was a very close friend with Bogie and visited him everyday when he got sick, before he died. 3.While filming The African Queen, everybody in the cast got sick from the water except for Bogie, because all he drank was Scotch and bourbon. 4.When Bogie passed away, Lauren Bacall, his wife asked his good friend Spencer Tracy to deliver the eulogy but he turned it down because he was so sorrowful over the death of his friend. 5.Lauren Bacall and Bogie named their son Stephen, after Bogie's character's name in To Have and Have Not. 6. Bogie was born on Christmas day in 1899. 7. Bogie wore wooden platforms in his shoes in many of his movies because most of his female costars were taller than him. 8. Bogie's wife, Lauren Bacall, was one of the founders of the Rat Pack. The original Rat Pack didn't include: Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. etc, but instead included: Bogie, Lauren, Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, David Niven, Judy Garland and more. Frank Sinatra joined the group later and turned it into the "Rat Pack" as we now know it. Here are some facts about the greatest dancing duo, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
1. Flying Down to Rio was one of the very rare times Ginger's name was listed before Fred's because Ginger at the time, was a bigger star in the movies than Fred, owing to the fact that she had made movies before and was already a hit. In a way, Ginger really helped boost Fred Astaire to success because without her he wouldn't have become half as famous and that wouldn't have led to more dance partners and historical musicals with Rita Hayworth and Eleanor Powell to name a few . 2. Fred in his movie career stayed in the musical genre while Ginger did : Dramas, Comedies and Musicals. 3. Fred was very against getting another dance partner (Ginger) in the beginning because he had just ended a partnership with his sister Adele Astaire. RKO the production company forced him because he had signed a contract and with them the marvelous duo Rogers and Astaire was born! 4. Ginger and Fred had dated for a short time before Ginger went to Hollywood. When they went out they would dance together at the restaurants and would get large rounds of applause from the other guests. 5. They shared a steamy kiss after one of their dates. 6. Ginger said if she had stayed in New York there could have been a chance of a real romance between them. 7. Ginger's Birthday and Ginger Rogers Day are both in July. July is national Ice Cream Month and Ginger's favorite thing is Ice cream! 8. Ginger and Fred both played tennis but Ginger was better. Ginger loved tennis but her favorite hobby was fishing. 9. Ginger was actually a very good artist with sculpting and drawing and painting, but she could never part with her work so it was never sold while she was alive. 10. Fred was a big fan of Micheal Jackson and his dancing. I will add many more once I can organize them all 😊. On this page I will share facts, stories and news about actors and actresses like : Sophia Loren, Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire, Cary Grant and Carol Burnett to name a few.
